The Provision of God

15 Sep 2021

There is no doubt that everything we have in our lives comes from the Lord. The Bible says, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

In my early years of study at university, I took advantage of my free time taking part in an evangelism group with young adults from other churches. On one occasion, the leader of the group told us about an opportunity to travel to another city to share the message of the gospel with young adults and teenagers. I knew this mission opportunity would require both time and finances on my part. As I was a student, this was difficult. I didn’t even have money for the bus ticket, let alone for food or anything else I might need for the trip. I really wanted to be part of this trip, so I reorganised my time so I could go, and I prayed for God to provide the finances I needed. I knew if He wanted me to go, He would give me everything I needed.

God knows our needs, as well as our wants. He knows that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also, as is written in Matthew 6:21. We could say we are in difficult times at the moment, some the most difficult situations we have ever been through financially and emotionally. Nevertheless, as Christians we know that struggles will always be with us, and each one should trust in God and depend completely on Him because He is always faithful.

In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus teaches that if we have God, who takes care of our daily needs, then there is no need to live stressed or anxious about how they will be met. Let us not doubt the power of God and His desire to provide everything His children need. Instead, let us live with grateful and contented hearts, as written in 1 Timothy 6:7-8.

Through the Word of God, we learn to live content with what we have. God will never leave us nor abandon us. In this way Paul expressed his thankfulness to the Christians in Philippi for the help they sent him, being content with what he had (Philippians 4:10-14). We too should be content in Jesus Christ because in Him we can do all things by His strength, in all circumstances.

God provided everything I needed for that missions trip, from the bus tickets to food for every day. He taught me to simply depend on Him, and that He is always faithful. Every day the service that I give back to Him is provided for by Him, as He gives me everything I need to glorify His name among the people among whom I minister.
