Global Mission – Is it really for me?
26 Apr 2023
There are so many needs here, why would I go overseas? The church is growing so fast in other countries, am I really needed in global mission? These are understandable questions, but we need to think about God’s plans for us and the world to really understand if global mission is for us.
God has been doing incredible things around the world in the last century. There are now hundreds of millions more Christians in Africa, Asia, and South America than ever before, but there remain more than 3 billion Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists in the world who don’t even know a Christian.
However, it’s not just the need that drives us to global mission. As God’s children, he invites us to join him in the wonderful work he is doing. After rising from the dead, Jesus appeared to his disciples and said, “As the Father sent me, I am sending you.” (John 20:21). God the Father sent the Son into the world so that everyone who believes in him might be saved. Then Jesus the Son sends us into the world to join in his mission.
What an amazing privilege. God invites us to join in what he is doing. We can have front row seats in the transformation of lives and communities as the gospel of Jesus goes out. Involvement in global mission is more than meeting a need, it is joining in the family business of lifting up the name of Jesus to the glory of God.
