The remote Western Province of PNG has many health needs. For the 200,000 people in this province where there are very few roads, it can be a very long and difficult journey to get help in times of sickness. Illness is a part of life in this predominantly tribal rainforest area. On average, one mother dies from complications of childbirth every 150 deliveries with about 8% of babies being stillborn or dying within twelve months. There is also an enormous burden from malaria, malnutrition, tuberculosis and now an increasing prevalence of HIV.

Embracing the Challenge of Team

It has been said that teams are what keep missionaries on the field, and what send many missionaries home.

Teams can be places of incredible warmth and support, providing a caring environment for personal and spiritual growth; our ‘safe place' when we are working in a dark and hostile environment. Teams can also be the cause of deep frustration and pain - sapping our energy and distracting us from the work we have been called to do. Working in teams is not always easy, but it is a Pioneers core value that we gladly embrace.

Are they friends with Jesus?

Kindergarten has stretched our five year old son's view of the world. Until this year, he has been surrounded by Christian family and friends. Now at school, interaction with his classmates and teachers has raised lots of questions.

One of these big questions has been, ‘Dad, Is Miss ... friends with Jesus?' And a week later, ‘Mum, does Uncle ... love Jesus? He doesn't? Why doesn't he want to be friends with Jesus?'
